Buscher leads Twins to gigantic win over A's

08/19/2008 - Minneapolis, MN (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Brian Buscher went 3-for-4 with a homer and five RBI to highlight Minnesota's 13-2 throttling of the Oakland Athletics in the middle installment of a three-game series.

Justin Morneau was 3-for-4 with two doubles, an RBI and three runs scored, while Randy Ruiz and Brendan Harris each had two hits and a pair of RBI for the Twins, who have won five of six. Carlos Gomez added a two-run homer in the romp.

Kevin Slowey (10-8) was overshadowed by the offensive outburst, striking out a career-high 12 while allowing two runs -- only one earned -- on five hits through seven frames on the mound.

The Twins still remain a game behind the AL Central-leading White Sox, who topped the hapless Mariners, 5-0 Tuesday.

Sean Gallagher (1-2) had a forgettable outing, getting tagged for 10 runs on 11 hits and three walks in five innings of futility. Kurt Suzuki hit a solo homer for the A's, who have lost five of seven.

After Suzuki's blast in the second, Buscher began his big night by smacking a two-run bomb over the right field wall in the bottom half. Harris followed with a base hit and Denard Span brought him in with a triple.

Morneau and Harris each doubled in a run in the third, while Ruiz singled home another in the Twins' second straight three-run inning.

In the away fourth, Jack Hannahan singled home Bobby Crosby, who reached on Buscher's throwing error. It was the last the A's would threaten and the only black eye on Buscher's career night.

The third baseman singled home Morneau in the fifth, and Harris backed it with a sacrifice fly to center. Gomez then turned on a Gallagher offering and launched it down the left field line and over the wall for an overwhelming 10-2 edge.

Minnesota kept pouring it on an inning later, loading the bases for Ruiz, who singled to right field before Buscher capped the game's scoring with a two-run base hit.

Game Notes

Minnesota's Joe Mauer extended his hitting streak to a career high 12 games with a 1-for-4 effort at the plate...Slowey won his third straight start...In the rubber match on Wednesday, the A's will counter the Twins' Francisco Liriano (3-3) with Dallas Braden (3-2).
