09/07/2007 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Milwaukee Brewers are coming off their best offensive performance of the season. They will try to keep swinging their big bats tonight in the first of three straight games against the Cincinnati Reds at Great American Ball Park.
In Wednesday's 14-2 win over the Houston Astros, the Brewers clubbed five home runs to support Yovani Gallardo's seven scoreless innings. Prince Fielder, Ryan Braun and Corey Hart each had three-run homers, while Geoff Jenkins and Bill Hall also went deep.
Gallardo (7-4), meanwhile, scattered six hits over his quality outing, striking out five and walking a pair.
Things got better the next day for Milwaukee, which has won five of its last six games, when Chicago lost to the Dodgers, dropping the Cubs into a tie with the Brewers for the top spot in the National League Central. Both clubs have identical records of 71-68.
The Brewers will send Dave Bush to the hill tonight hoping the right-hander can win his third straight decision. He bested the Pirates on Saturday, holding the club to one run and four hits over six innings. The victory improved Bush to 11-9 on the season with a 4.83 earned run average, though he is 8-3 over his last 15 outings.
Bush has had little success against the Reds in his career, going 1-1 in six starts against them with a 6.68 ERA.
Bronson Arroyo will start tonight for Cincinnati and is a disappointing 7-14 this year with a 4.43 ERA. He picked up a loss in his last start on Sunday, giving up three runs and eight hits over 6 1/3 innings in St. Louis.
The right-hander is 5-3 with a 3.58 ERA in 11 career outings against the Brewers, eight of those starts. He did pick up a win over the club on August 17, holding Milwaukee to three runs over 7 1/3 innings.
The Reds halted a five-game losing streak on Wednesday in a big way, blanking the Mets 7-0. Tom Shearn and three relievers combined for the three-hit shutout.
Shearn (2-0) went six innings, allowing three hits with three walks and three strikeouts. Marcus McBeth, Jared Burton and Mike Stanton each threw one hitless inning in relief.
Brandon Phillips belted his 28th homer of the year, breaking Joe Morgan's 1976 team record for home runs in a season by a second baseman. Joey Votto also homered for his first major league hit in his second career at-bat for Cincinnati.
The Reds are 6-3 against the Brewers this year and have won four of six over the club at home.
